Magic Monday: Mermaids are Real?!

The Little Mermaid is one of my all-time favorite movies.  Confession: my favorite sing-in-the-shower-song is Part of That World.

When I heard about the mermaid "documentary," I was a tad excited.

Read here.
See pictures here.  And here.

Yes, I wrote a book about fairies. Some may think I'm one of those people who have rooms decorated completely in unicorn themes. I don't.

Although...this lovely picture hangs on a wall.

Wouldn't you like to think that maybe, just maybe,  a real mer-girl like Ariel wants to find herself and break free from what's expected?

I don't know about you, but I like to believe in the possibility of fairy tales.

  1. When I was a child (about 10 or 11) my mom bought an ancient used set of an encyclopedia called The Book of Knowledge. It had hundreds of both fictional and nonfictional stories and articles. There were color pictures of hundreds of fairies, pixies, princesses, princes, elves, and so on. I fed on those books for several years and learned to read far beyond my years due to my favorite pastime, exploring the Books of Knowledge. Mom was always buying me some new "old" book at the used book store. I had read all of "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" by about the sixth grade. Then I started researching the Arthurian legends as a seventh grader. It was a world of my own where I could retreat at any time. I thank my mom for helping me blossom into an adult who reads the Bhagavad Gita, The Holy Bible, Max Planck, Immanuel Kant, the Dalai Lama, the Egyptian Book of the Dead, ancient Tibetan texts, Histories of China, and a myriad of other books about quantum physics and astrophysics, and Dr. Suess, or gothic mysteries, all with an equal enthusiasm. Every book is like a portal to another universe. And yes, I was ALWAYS intrigued by The Little Mermaid. Who knows what will be discovered in the Mariana Trench? I never close my mind.

    1. What a lovely story! My mother, too, opened a world for me by recommending books. I also had a certain teacher *ahem* who helped A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM come to life by creating a production with a bunch of middle school students--who identified more closely with the Mechanicals than the romantic leads! AMND definitely influenced my novel GLAMOUR. Thank you for that.
