What do you love?

Every time I see an adult on a bicycle I no longer despair for the future of the human race.
-H.G. Wells

Garrett left this morning to ride in the Campagnolo Gran Fondo New York.

He's going to have a blast. He's a mellow man, so I'm doing the Snoopy happy dance on his behalf.

Cycling is his passion.

One of the best things about having a passion is getting to share it.

We start 'em early around here.

It's contagious.

The perfect potty training bribe: bike with no pedals.

Although, he trains practically every day, Garrett participates in only a few organized rides each year.

Tornadoes hopped all around us when we arrived at the 2012 Red Bud Classic, but the weather didn't dampen our spirits.
I have a feeling we'll be cheering for more than one member of the family before too long.

When Max received his first real bike this spring, I'm not sure which of my guys was more excited.

What is your passion? Have you shared it with anyone?

  1. As silly as it may sound, my biggest passion (omitting family relations) is the topic of preventing divorce. I find myself jotting notes, highlighting passages, reading books I wouldn't have read two years ago - all to obtain nuggets to pass on to those in various stages of relationships in hopes that - wherever they are on the spectrum - they have an enhanced result. OK - I need to stop now - I feel a speech coming on.

    Go Garrett!

    1. That's one of the things that is so special about you. Divorce lawyers get a bad rap--like they WANT people to divorce. Everyone in any stage of a relationship should consult your blog at shelharrington.com Plus, you manage to make the topic amusing.

  2. Unfortunately, I have many interests--so many that I often find it hard to focus on doing one thing well. But if I were forced to name a passion, I would have to say reading. When I retired,I knew I would never have a boring day as long as I had a book to read.
Glad Garrett has found his passion and is able to pursue it.

    1. In various forms, stories have always been my passion, too, Dee Dee. As a child, my parents moved our family far enough into the "country" that we had a long distance phone number, no friends within walking distance, and NO CABLE TV. Books filled many hours that would have been "boring" otherwise.

  3. As you know I have a cyclist in my house as well, although he is not as speedy as Garrett! I have had many passions over the years but the ones with staying power are working with children (the coolest place to start!),art, music, reading, and writing. I know that these are my true passions because I can lose myself and all track of time when I am in the zone- and I emerge more energized as the result of the time spent.
