Tasty Tuesday: Crockpot Round Steak with Rich Gravy

Prepare yourself.

This meal is one of my absolute favorites.  When you serve this home cooked, feel good meal, people will think you know your way around a kitchen. In reality, all you'll need to locate are the crockpot and can opener.

But that'll be our little secret. Shhh!

Four ingredients. Seriously.

Round Steak with Rich Gravy
2 1/2 pounds of round steak
1 can Golden Mushroom soup
1 packet onion soup
1/4 cup water

Place meat in bottom of crockpot. Pour in remaining ingredients. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. If you cook it longer, the meat will fall to pieces--which can be really yummy on a baked potato.

Complete Magical Meal Suggestion
This meal is delicious with country green beans and mashed potatoes. Since made-from-scratch potatoes require more effort than I usually have time for, we bake sweet potatoes in the microwave.  Add green beans, corn on the cob, and a roll, and you have a meal that looks and tastes like you spent the entire day in the kitchen.

Newlyweds, this one will impress your in-laws.

Giving credit where credit is due: My mother "held this recipe close to her heart for years." Her words.  She doesn't know where she found it, but you will be grateful she did when you try it yourself.

  1. I am looking for crockpot recipes because I have just started taking care of my elderly in-laws so I can be very busy some days. This looks like a good one. They really like good comfort food. Thanks

    1. Since it is so easy to make I wonder why I don't cook it once a week. If you're looking for comfort food, you've found it. My grandparents loved this meal, by the way.

    2. What if your allergic to mushrooms is there another soup I can use or can I just leave it out altogether. Do you think it would drastically change the taste of the receipe?

  2. Be careful with sodium when cooking for elderly parents/in-laws...

  3. I flour and brown the round steak first before going in croc pot

    1. I see a lot of crock pot recipes that suggest browning various meat dishes before placing them in crockpot. If I were less of a lazy cook I'd probably try it! Thanks for the suggestion. :)

  4. I live in a small town and can never find golden mushroom soup. Any suggestions for a substitute?

    1. I'm guessing you live in an even smaller town than I! It is definitely available through Amazon. We order a lot of things online that we can't obtain without a long drive. Why not canned goods? Happy cooking!

    2. I realize this didn't answer your question regarding a substitute. Here's a link to a substitute I found: http://www.yummly.com/recipe/Campbells-Golden-Mushroom-Soup-Substitute-Food_com-129273

Of course, this substitution recipe involves a bit of actual cooking, so it takes the "easy" out of the original recipe!

  6. This was amazing! I used a full cup of water and cooked it on low for 8 hours. Used the juice to make a gravy and served with mashed potatoes.
